Seven trades of aberdeen

All new members of the Seven Incorporated Trades are admitted to be Free Burgesses of Trade of the Burgh of Aberdeen at a ceremony conducted by the Lord Provost. The society comprises seven trades: Hammermen (1519) Bakers (1398) Wrights and Coopers (1527) Tailors (1511) Shoemakers (1484 and 1520) Weavers (pre 1222) Fleshers (1534) With the arrival of the Railway system to Aberdeen in 1845, the Incorporated Trades were obliged to sell their fine hall and grounds and move to a Union Street site just east of Union Bridge. The cost of the new building was £7,000.

The Deacon Convenor and Deacon of The Aberdeen Hammermen Incorporation were delighted to attend the Company of Cordwainers of York’s Charter Weekend. The tour of York Minster was magnificent and Mike the Tour Guide was very knowledgeable. The Annual Livery Dinner in the fantastic Merchant Adventurers Hall, was excellent and pleased to celebrate the election of their new Master, Mrs Anne Reid

Aberdeen Tailors’ Incorporation, part of the Seven Incorporated Trades of Aberdeen, have donated monies towards UCAN. UCAN are a local charity that was launched 10 years ago and they do fantastic work in raising awareness and for providing Urological care for patients and families right here in the North East of Scotland.

Each member, although now from a variety of backgrounds and commercial spheres, must be accepted to one of the original seven trades: Hammermen; Bakers;  We in 2012 celebrated the 425th anniversary of the election of a Deacon
